Zhaoxing Home Care Q&A

Q1: What are the differences between nursing homes, elderly care facilities, and senior living homes?

In Taiwan, elderly welfare institutions that care for the elderly are generally divided into three levels:

  1. Nursing homes: These are facilities that can only care for elderly people who are fully self-sufficient in their daily lives, that is, healthy seniors.

  2. Nursing home: Can care for patients with nasogastric tubes, urinary catheters, or who are completely bedridden. However, cannot admit patients with tracheostomies. (Age restriction: Must be 60 years or older)

  3. Nursing Home: Providing comprehensive living and nursing care for everyone from the most severe cases (nasogastric tubes, urinary catheters, tracheostomies) to the most minor cases (elderly people simply seeking care). (No age limit)

Q2: What rehabilitation services does the nursing home offer?

The institution offers two options for residents: in-hospital rehabilitation and out-of-hospital rehabilitation. The rehabilitation time slots arranged by each institution are different, and each institution's rehabilitation therapist will assess which option is suitable for the resident.

Q3: What documents do I need to prepare if my family member wants to move into a nursing home?

Payment required on the day of admission:

  • deposit

  • Basic care expenses for the current month [monthly fee]

  • Discharge medical record summary (for physician rounds)

  • Medications will be prescribed by the hospital upon discharge (after settling the bill).

  • Blood test report

Q4: If my family members need to stay in a nursing home, what are the fees for long-term or short-term stays?

This institution has a total of:

  • Six-person room

  • triple room

  • Double room

  • VIP Single Room

Each person's physiological condition and the required nursing care techniques and level of care are different. Therefore, even if two patients choose the same room type, the care fees will differ due to their different medical conditions. If you have any questions regarding fees or other matters, please contact our hospital manager for a detailed explanation!

Q5: What are the categories of self-paid consumables?

Self-funded consumables:

Diapers, nursing pads, suction catheters, toilet paper, wet wipes, sterile latex gloves, blood glucose test strips, oxygen supply, toothpaste biscuits, etc.

◎ Depending on the patient's condition, the cost of medical consumables may be incurred, including cotton swabs, gauze, oxygen, blood glucose test strips, etc.

Q6: Can I apply for social welfare subsidies if I stay at Zhaoxing Nursing Home?

◎ Zhaoxing Nursing Home currently accepts applications for childcare subsidies for people with disabilities from the Taipei City Government and New Taipei City Government, based on the following criteria:

  1. Registered residence in Taipei City (required)

  2. Must possess a disability certificate and have a disability level of severe or profound (required)

◎ Required documents for low- to middle-income households or low-income households (this is not mandatory, but those who meet the requirements can apply for a higher subsidy amount):

  1. Identification documents of the applicant (you) and the respondent (the patient) (family members should provide their own identification documents).

  2. The applicant's (patient's) disability certificate [disability level must be severe or profound] (to be provided by family members).

  3. Household registration copy (to be provided by family members)

  4. The doctor's certificate "certifies that the patient has one of the following: tracheostomy, urinary catheter, or nasogastric tube" (For patients already admitted, we can send the certificate to the designated hospital on your behalf, but the family must pay for it themselves).

  5. 6. A standard contract signed with the nursing home (prepared by us) 7. A copy of the nursing home's business license with both official seals (prepared by us)

After the above documents are submitted to the Social Affairs Bureau of Taipei City or New Taipei City, it will take approximately 40 working days for the Social Affairs Bureau to reply with the review results in an official document.

Q7: What will the nursing home do if an emergency occurs after my family member is admitted?

Nursing homes are places that provide comprehensive nursing and care services. However, nursing homes are not medical institutions and cannot perform medical procedures (surgery, incision, electric shock, etc. are not allowed). Therefore, when your family member has an emergency (such as a sudden myocardial infarction, shock, or a sudden deterioration of the patient's condition), our nursing and care staff have no responsibility for medical emergency treatment [even in hospitals, doctors cannot guarantee that every patient can be saved].

We will take appropriate first aid measures:

  1. The on-duty nurse will first administer appropriate treatments such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation and then notify the on-duty physician of the hospital for emergency treatment.

  2. An emergency call will take the patient to the hospital emergency room or directly to the on-duty physician for assessment and admission to the hospital's inpatient department.

  3. The family members are urgently notified to come to the hospital to take over care or to entrust the hospital's inpatient department to provide care support.

Q8: Will the nursing home charge any additional fees if my family member is hospitalized?

If your family member is admitted to the hospital due to illness, we will stop charging if we do not reserve a bed. We will resume charging once your family member has completed treatment and is transferred back to our hospital, and we will arrange for them to stay in an available bed. If we reserve a bed, we will process a refund for the number of days of hospitalization, including meal expenses.

However, the family must pay for the round-trip ambulance fare during the transfer process.

Q9: If my family member is admitted to a nursing home, will the nursing home send someone to accompany them to the hospital for a follow-up visit if needed?

Our nursing and care services are primarily confined to the hospital premises. Doctors from Sanchong Chung Hsing Hospital regularly conduct rounds within the hospital. If your family members require follow-up visits to other hospitals or departments, you or another family member will need to take the patient to the hospital at your convenience. However, if you are unable to make the time, we can arrange for a special nurse to accompany the patient (a special nurse charges NT$1500 for half a day; round-trip ambulance or taxi fares are to be borne by the family).

Q10: If my family member stays in a nursing home and later needs to be hospitalized due to changes in their condition, will the nursing home send someone to take care of them?

You will be responsible for all expenses incurred at the hospital. As our hospital's scope of work is limited to within the hospital premises, we cannot send staff to the hospital to care for patients. You will need to hire a caregiver yourself or entrust the hospital's inpatient department to provide care support.
